In the Himalayas, a short distance on the map can take days by road or trail, and mountain flights are often delayed by weather. The Nepal Chopper Service helicopter shuttle connects Kathmandu with Lukla and other mountain gateways on a shared-seat basis. You pay only for your own seat and still get the speed and flexibility of a helicopter. All flights are operated by helicopter companies licensed by the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN).

How Our Shared Shuttle Works

Each shuttle helicopter carries up to five passengers, and the total load of passengers and baggage must stay within the aircraft’s weight limit. We group travelers flying the same route on the same morning, so each guest pays only for one seat. If you prefer to fly alone or with your own group, you can book the whole helicopter as a private charter.

At high altitude, the thinner air reduces how much a helicopter can lift. On flights into the upper Khumbu valley, groups are often split at a lower point such as Pheriche and flown up in two short trips. This is standard practice in the Himalaya, and it keeps every flight within safe limits.

Why Choose a Helicopter Shuttle

In peak trekking seasons, most fixed-wing flights to Lukla have operated from Manthali (Ramechhap) rather than Kathmandu, which adds a long drive. The Nepal Chopper Service shuttle departs from Kathmandu. Helicopters also offer more flexible departure times and can often reach Lukla when fixed-wing schedules are disrupted. That makes the shuttle a dependable choice for trekkers, climbers, and travelers on a tight schedule.

Good to Know Before You Fly

Morning flights: Mountain weather is most stable early in the day. Flights operate only in clear visibility, and if the weather closes in, we move you to the next available flight.
Baggage: Every flight is weight-limited, so tell us your baggage weight when you book and pack in a soft duffel bag.
Fees not included: Airport tax at Lukla and the Everest region entry permits are paid separately. They apply however you travel.
Everest landing rules: Rules on where commercial helicopters may land above Lukla have changed several times since 2023. We confirm the current permitted landing points with every booking.
